 Dr. Joseph Gianfortoni |
Dr. Joseph Gianfortoni, affectionately known as Dr. G., is the Director of LifeSource. A Board Certified Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility Specialist, he earned his MD at George Washington University. After finishing his Residency in Ob-Gyn at Georgetown University, he completed a Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Georgetown and National Institutes of Health.
Dr. G is credited with many firsts during his career. He was responsible for the first multiple IVF births conceived and delivered in Chicago, the first IVF pregnancy performed in an office-based setting the Midwest, and the first GIFT pregnancy conceived in the Midwest. After relocating to Richmond, Virginia, in 1988, he achieved the first successful non-laparoscopic IVF pregnancy in Central Virginia. Recently he performed the first laparoscopic robotic-assisted tubal reversal in the mid-Atlantic region. Several other distinctions add to his dedication to providing the finest and most advanced services for his patients. In the role of principal investigator, he has conducted research on endometriosis and pelvic pain. |
Under Dr. Gianfortoni’s direction, LifeSource Fertility Center is best known for providing infertility treatment. However, Dr. G. also diagnoses and treats recurring pregnancy loss, endometriosis, menstrual irregularities, galactorrhea (milky breast discharge), hirsutism (excess body hair) and pelvic pain. As part of LifeSource’s mission to maintain reproductive potential, Dr. G. offers advanced pelvic reconstructive surgery, advanced laparoscopic surgery, laser surgery and microsurgery for problems such as endometriosis, ovarian cysts, pelvic pain, pelvic adhesions, uterine fibroids, and tubal ligation reversal.
